Lauren creates bespoke custom stationery using her own hand-drawn pen and ink or hand-painted watercolor artwork and the highest quality resources for handmade paper, cardstock, digital, letterpress and foil printing, and assembly of her suites. Process

What it looks like start to finish working with me to design and bring your invitation suite to life!

Contact me!

Get in touch! I’ll need to know your date and what quantity of invites you are looking for. Have an idea of how many suites you’re looking for, what cards you want in your suite (main invite, rsvp, details, map, etc.), and what style or embellishments are important to you. Inspiration photos are great! I’m happy to meet up with locals or talk/facetime, but 90% of my business is conducted solely through email, so don’t be discouraged if you’re not local!

Pricing

Once I have an idea of what you’re looking for, I’ll put together a custom pricing sheet for you. Pricing is an important step for me! I want my clients to know exactly what to expect and how much each embellishment costs at the beginning stage. Pricing can be changed to fit within any budget by manipulating paper, artwork, or services and embellishments!

Payment

Payment is broken down by process. I take payment for each step (time allowing; rush orders will have a faster paced payment process). The first payment is for artwork and design. Then Paper, printing, and embellishments. Some clients choose to pay in full which is fine. I do not do work without payment, and payments are non refundable since these are payments for work or materials NOT deposits.

Artwork

Once payment is received, the first step is to design artwork! You’ll send me inspiration photos, color palette, florals, or other details from your event that you’d like represented by your suite. We will also choose paper and materials in this stage. Printing or materials will affect the artwork process, so it’s important to nail those things down simultaneously. All artwork is proofed! You will review and provide feedback every step of the way. I will never print without approval, and once approval is given, any reprints will come with a cost.

Printing

Printing will be completed in-house based on which options you chose during pricing. All of my printing services are performed in-house with digital laser printing, letterpress printing, and foil pressing. I also die-cut with my letterpress and embellish with multiple laser cutters. I have extensive resources to bring your suite to life.

Design

Design is the layout, format, calligraphy, and other design that goes into making the print-ready files for the actual cards in your suite. This step marries the artwork and text of your suite into. This process will be proofed before printing as well. You will have provided the wording for the cards to me as well as the guest addresses in my format.

Calligraphy, Assembly, Embellishments, and shipping

“Suite add ons” like handwritten calligraphy, assembly, wax seals, envelope liners, jackets, belly bands, etc. will be applied as the final process before shipping the finished suite to the client. Assembly includes the stuffing, stamping, and sealing of your envelopes. Postage is sold separately and must be provided by the client. I will help curate the postage set with you during proofing!

Options and Embellishments Explained

Paper

I offer a wide variety of paper options including card stocks of varying weights thick enough to letterpress and a variety of handmade papers from various suppliers. Each handmade paper supplier has a slightly different style and technique making each one unique. Using several suppliers means that there is a wide range of style, color, and availability. I also make my own handmade paper sometimes! Choosing paper is my favorite part of the process and offers the most creativity and style to your suite through color and texture!

I have a huge stock of handmade papers, cardstocks, envelopes, and embellishments in order to be able to fill rush orders. Sometimes, due to timing, there are limitations to papers and materials that I have in my stock. Lead times on ordering materials can be up to 20 weeks, so it is important to communicate expectations on color palette, paper type, etc during the pricing process in order to secure materials.*

Artwork

All of my artwork is hand drawn or painted by me! (There is no AI here!!) I am a watercolor artist specializing in buildings like venues, landscapes, pets, florals, and crests. I do not paint people! I am also a calligrapher and utilize that skill in line drawings of crests, florals, buildings, landscapes, etc. Line drawings can be used in a variety of ways from digital printing to letterpress whereas watercolor has to be digitally printed. Artwork selection and card design determines which printing method can or must be used. Line drawings can be pressed or digitally printed whereas a watercolor must be digitally printed.

Printing

I offer in-house digital lazer printing (right) as well as in-house letterpress printing (left) on my Chandler and Price platen presses. Printing should be chosen based on the style you are after. Letterpress leaves an impression in the paper with a single color ink, and artworks must be line drawings or vector files. Digital printing offers a photo print of any color except metallics and works well with artworks like watercolor. I do have the ability to digitally print in white ink.

Envelope Addressing

I offer two styles of handwritten envelope calligraphy as well as digitally printed envelope addressing. Calligraphy can be “regular pen” calligraphy ,“dip pen” calligraphy, or “monoline” calligraphy. All handwritten options are available in a wide variety of colors including metallics.

  • Dip pen calligraphy is my handwritten calligraphy with a traditional dip pen. The thickness of the line varies from thick to thin.

  • Monoline calligraphy is handwritten calligraphy with a monoline dip pen. The thickness of the line does not vary and the thickness of the line is determined by the size of the tip (fine, medium, bold). I mostly use a fine monoline pen with dipped inks for a really delicate look.

  • Digitally printed envelope addressing is a digital font printed on each envelope. There are unlimited font options including calligraphy fonts and printing can be in any color but not metallic.

Return addressing can be printed in many ways. Since this is one design printed multiple times, it can be digitally printed, letterpressed, or foil pressed. The return address can include handwritten digitized calligraphy and pieces of artwork.

Die Cutting

Die cutting involves cutting cardstock into shapes using dies affixed to my letterpress. I also have several laser cutters to achieve finer cuts. This gives me the ability to create unique shapes.

Suite Add ons and embellishments

Assembly- I will stuff, stamp, and seal your suite. Postage will be provided by the client. The suites will be completely assembled with all embellishments and ready to mail.

Wax Seals- Wax seals can be applied directly or provided loosely with adhesive backings for diy assembly. Wax seals can be used in more places than just the envelope flap.

Envelope Liners- Envelope liners are a beautiful detail and a great place to use more artwork like a map or venue painting.

Silk Ribbon, String, Enclosures, or Belly Bands- Your suite of multiple cards can be bound together with any of these!

Options and embellishments are endless, but these are some of the more common ones that I price all the time!

Letterpress Printing

Letterpress printing is an old artwork that is revived in the stationery industry as a fine art service. I have a Chandler and Price Platen press from 1885 as my main workhorse and another smaller Chandler and Price Platen press for backup support. I offer letterpress printing of my own designs as well as printing services of other artists’ designs. I letterpress print onto handmade paper made in house by myself (and my mom!) or also on handmade papers or thick card stocks from other suppliers. There is a fee for the die and set up as well as a per card printing fee determined by size. Please contact me for pricing!

Handmade Paper

I make handmade paper with a blend of cotton and abaca fibers as well as other “recycled” fibers like blue jeans or cardboard. I use my handmade paper in my own stationery suites either digitally or letterpress printed as well as provide handmade paper to other artists. I make my own custom blended colors for seasons and also blend custom colors for clients. The paper is available in small batches or curated bundles in my shop. Please contact me for pricing of large or custom orders.!
